About David

David A. Conrad grew up in Fort Worth, Texas and attended Austin College in Sherman, Texas, where he majored in History and Asian Studies. He next spent two years in Japan's Miyagi prefecture as an assistant language teacher, and later returned for a third year researching his dissertation on the early postwar period. David received his Ph.D. from the University of Texas at Austin in 2016.
David and his wife Kathryn met in line for a movie at the South by Southwest Film Festival in 2017. They are raising two children in central Texas and still catch as many screenings as they can.
David's first book, Akira Kurosawa and Modern Japan, published by McFarland & Co. in 2022, combines David's love of film with his passion for 20th-century Japanese history.
